Activated Charcoal
Today's post is a health/beauty post! I've been hearing a lot about 'activated charcoal' lately - from drinking it to putting it on your face. I just finished a cleanse a few weeks ago that required drinking a glass of water mixed with it before bed. Activated Charcoal is known for it's intense detoxification properties, so I was excited to try it on my skin in the form of a face mask. Derma E Natural Skincare has a whole line of purifying products made for oily, active skin using activated charcoal, green tea, aloe, and other natural ingredients.
Before I drank this stuff and put it on my face, I did a bit of research. So to break it down for you: Activated charcoal has been used in hospitals for a long time to treat alcohol poisoning and drug overdoses, and it works by attaching to toxins and absorbing them. So the idea behind putting it in beauty products, is that the charcoal acts like a magnet and pulls the dirt and oil from your skin, it all sticks to the carbon and gets washed away when you rinse. Pretty cool huh? And honestly, makes total sense. Enjoy this hilarious time lapse of me trying the face mask... and yes i'm in the kitchen, because the lighting is better.
So my consensus is, I really like this product to use a couple of times a week, and especially during the Summer. I'm outside every day riding my horse and I always come home covered in dirt and sweat - this is the perfect product to get all that out and off of my skin! I also tried their gel cleanser, which is great to keep in the shower when i've just come home from the barn or the gym. The biggest perks of this line are they're paraben free, gluten free, and dye/fragrance free. Best of all? They are also 100% vegan, cruelty-free, and never tested on animals.
